Welcome to The William Pub
It was in 1505, when Agnolo Doni, powerful Florentin merchant, made to build, in front of the Francescan friar garden of the Santa Croce Basilique, his elegant residence.
Here, throughout the centuries, many important artists and writers found hospitality.
Among these personalities Michelangelo (that in honour of the marriage of Agnolo and Maddalena Strozzi created the famous "Tondo Doni"), Raffaello (who created the portraid of the spouses) and, further on, D'Annunzio.
Once it had lost the function of private residence and also many others, the prestigious palace host nowadays on it's ground floor, one of the most famous Pub in Florence, THE WILLIAM PUB.
Under its magnificient vaults, painted in the first half of 1800 by Luigi Ademollo, the grait painter who previously gave his art in some ambient of "Palazzo Pitti", many peoples Italian and foreigner people can drink pints and pints of English, German and Italian beer.
Nowadays, of course, is not the sound of ancient lute to colour the evening, but the notes of modern guitars that musicians play every thuesdays, thursdays and fridays in the big ambient.
